Sorry for the hiatus, I actually spent all of last week at
Syracuse University where I gave a guest
lecture and held a wine tasting for Due
Cani and I had trouble finding time to write. The experience made me
realize how romantic the notion of wine and the wine business is. I was there
to share my experiences in entrepreneurship with a group of MBA students, and I
was really surprised by how many people are intrigued by the wine business, not
because they love wine, but because it has this aura of romance that surrounds
it.
We have all read the stories about how a successful broker/doctor/lawyer/CEO
(the list goes on) moved out of an urban area to pursue a more relaxed
lifestyle as an inn keeper/organic farmer/writer (etc), and this is certainly
the case with wineries, as well. Over the years we have visited many wineries
in various wine regions that were started by a career-changing couple that
decided to pursue their passion or just a more relaxed lifestyle. (Although, I
have to admit that starting Due Cani has definitely not been a relaxing venture
to this point for me! Perhaps someday...!)
And I suppose, if I take a look inward, I have to admit that I can relate to
the people that moved out of cities across the globe to pursue a new lifestyle.
Although, I have not made a physical move, I certainly have made a decision
that was a major change in my life. Instead of continuing my Wall Street career
and lifestyle, I have chosen a new path that includes consulting, wine and another degree.
