Urban vintners unite: S.F. group touts city wines

November 21, 2008

Urban wine enthusiasts are excited about the launching of the newly formed San Francisco Wine Association. The SFWA hopes to raise visibility of urban wineries vinifying their wares right here in the city.

The 16 member wineries, such as Connor Brennan Cellars and Damian Rae, are mostly family-run, independent operators making small-production wines from fruit gathered from vineyards in Oregon, Washington and California. Though the fruit is sourced elsewhere, the urban vintners crush, barrel, blend and bottle within the city limits

Wine enthusiasts are closely following the path of these city-made wines, which are garnering high points and even double gold medals at competitions.
