White Hawk is located just outside the town of Los Alamos in
Santa Barbara. The vineyard is planted on a southern facing slope at 900 feet
elevation and benefits from the marine influence of the Pacific Ocean, which is
just 20 miles away. White Hawk Syrah is
known for its low yields, intense black fruit and core of bright acidity. One
of the most highly regarded sites in Santa Barbara Co., White Hawk Vineyard’s
soil and climate are ideal for the production of world class Syrah grapes. The vineyard is committed to using
sustainable and primarily organic viticulture methods. After a long, dry growing season, the
2007 harvest occurred in late-October. Following fermentation with native yeasts,
the wine was aged 17 months in 100% new French oak barrels from Ermitage before
bottling.
Tasting notes: The first thing that strikes you about
our 2007 White Hawk Syrah is its deep red color with a garnet hue. The
complexity of this wine reveals itself on the nose with scents of black stone
fruits, eucalyptus, white pepper and even cherry cola. Your palate is rewarded with luscious flavors
of black cherry, dark caramel and toasted oak with a full-rounded, lingering
finish consisting of noticeable, yet smooth tannins. As it is a big and young
wine, give it some time to open up over the course of the evening!
